Analysis of Holoportation


This mix of virtual and mixed reality will definitely be the future of human communication. Holoportation which is a combination of hologram and teleportation is the best way to name this as it is teleporting the hologram of a person which is a 3d object.The idea of creating a 3d object of a person by creating data elements, then compressing the data, then sending it to a place and decompressing it seems simple but it may have a lot of issues with bandwidth, frequency and connection lines.It is sited in any places that this will be the future of conferences, board meetings, and video lectures.But I feel the main problem which arises is the security issue.As it compresses and sends the data through the internet it could easily be stolen or corrupted so data security that is securely transmitting the data and data integrity that is maintaining the original data is very important in this process.

As discussed in class about creating 3d models of a business man or politicians they wanted a model which exactly replicated them with a suit and stuff, this holoportation is the best solution for such requirements as it recreates the same person in it.I opine that the functioning of the holoportation mainly depend on tracking and interactions as if the person is not properly tracked it is not properly displayed. In our class sometimes the VR is not tracked even though we have the set up in a small space and we need so much wiring and 2 cameras just to track our VR in class, nor to track a real person in real environment it may need more of the wiring and cameras to be set up to track the objects without any disturbances. To be on track the tracked person will definitely have a boundary in which he has to stay for the holoportation to work as if he moves out of the boundary he will not be tracked.






It will be a very effective solution to the collaboration as well where in 2 or more people work together, but the problems like having a private space to oneself will be a key again. Navigation will be easy as long as the tracking is efficient but navigation will also be a problem if the tracking is not set in a convenient way. Microsoft claims that they have performed the experiment in a moving car but the person in the car is not moving. It would have been much use if the cameras very motion sensitive i.e if the cameras were able to detect where the person is then the boundaries of the person will also increase as he may not always be worried about getting tracked by the cameras.





In the rewind feature provided the recordings can be more effective if the speed of the replay can be adjusted.The shrink feature is the best option in this experiment as it makes us feel like seeing our own world as a miniature world and observing our own actions will help us learn about ourselves. As in the use of hololens, we won't have any wands so we have to be careful while interacting with the people as we use hands as gestures as well as to control the hololens. The additional requirement for this will be that we need obvious space for the people to look at so we need to have enough area for that as it does not look cool if people pass by walls in our room or something like that.
