Descriptive Title: Cricket 2017 in VR - M.S. Dhoni


Description of the project---


Cricket is the world's second most watched, played and has second most number of fans all around the world next to the soccer. We found few games for soccer which are really good but for cricket, there are no such games which give the user a feeling of true immersion as a player standing in the middle of the huge stadium surrounded by 25k people. Our aim for this project is to make the user get the feel of being a player chasing a target set by the opponent team. Every cricket fan ever would have dreamed to be a cricketer playing along with their favorite teammates and helping them win a match. Our project will make those dreams come true and VR provides the best experience of an immersive feel of the stadium and crowd.





In our project, the user will be at the center of the huge cricket stadium with a target to chase so that his team will win the match. The user will have a bat with him and hits the ball when bowled to score the runs. We will have a commentary section, according to the batsman playing abilities the commentary will be heard. The user can hit 1,2,4 or 6 runs based on his power and ability to hit the ball. And the scores are decided based on the distance the ball has traveled and also the shot he has played. He has to hit it keeping the fielders in mind as they always try to stop the ball. Based on his score for a ball we display animations on the screen, for example, if he hits a six there will be cheerleaders dancing and also crackers bursting all around and if it is a 1 run then only a small applause will be given based on the shot.


The user can also select from a given set of teams. We will also have wickets and when the user misses them he is out and also if any of the fielders catches the ball he will be out. There are many other ways in which he can be out like LBW etc. We also add other interesting stuff like statistics(on a graphical representation) of the player and the shots played by him in the last match.

In our project we will be having 2 divisions of work namely UI/UX and Interactions/data display with scripts. We are planning to divide equal amount of work(features) for three of us in these two divisions as we did the same for previous projects as well.

DataSet: https://cricsheet.org/ - The data generated from the game might be appended to this data to compute more statistics of the player. We might also use other data sets in future which would be more appropriate.

Updates to the initial Description ->


The player can bat in the regular match. But if there is a tie in the scores, we include a penalty bowl out.

We assign certain actions to the fielders. They move in certain directions if the ball approaches them. so the player needs to find a right direction to hit the ball.

The bat is attached to one of the Vive controllers.

We add commentary and appropriate audio to simulate the crowd in the stadium.

we set the target based on the historic ratings of the opponent team selected by the user and we randomly generate a score between some lower and upper bounds. These bounds vary for each team depending on their ratings and now we will be the person to chase that target.
